Small or big, a bathroom is your private haven. It’s the place to wash all your worries away. So, whenever you decide for bathroom design renovation, please don’t hurry.

Bathrooms may be one of the smaller rooms of your house, but they take very long to make. We have created this ultimate bathroom redo list for you so that you can focus on design and décor.

Step 1: Decide your layout

Bathrooms have three primary activities – vanity basin counter, the water closet and the bath area. Juggle these options around your bathroom space to see what suits you best. Many people prefer a larger counter; others want a sizeable shower area or even a full height mirror.  You could also consider consulting with an interior designer to maximise your bathroom experience.

Step 2: Choose a look with tiles and stone

With the bath and wash as basics, your bathroom design is primarily a wet area. Thereby, the walls and floors get clad in stone or ceramic tiles. You see, the tiles you select are important for the washroom’s appeal. Usually, a combination of tiles is selected for walls and floors, along with stone for vanity counter

Step 3: Select sanitary ware

Now is the turn to choose some fittings, let’s begin with your basin and water closet. There is a wide range of options here with types, brands and price range. You will be spending some time to choose the one perfect piece.

Step 4: Shop for wellness fittings

Next in line are the taps and shower fittings. Again, same is true for the sanitary ware, this category also spoils you with too many choices. My advice is to make this selection in tune with the sanitary ware. Try to work with a singular theme across step 2, 3 and 4.

Step 5: Find a contractor with a plumber and electrician

Fetching a suitable contractor involves only two factors – your budget and the contractor’s skill. That’s about it. Ask a preliminary budget from your contractor after the first meeting. sOnce you have found something that fits your pocket, request the contractor to arrange a few visits to his completed works. You see, bathroom designs are about detailing. The tile joints have to be in line, and the stone edge needs to be smooth. Keep an eye for the detail in your visit.

Step 6: Break your current bathroom

Start the actual construction work in your bathroom with your selected contractor. You have to hand over the entire bathroom to the labour for 2 to 3 weeks, and may also have to give up the adjoining room. And most importantly, prepare yourself for some loud breaking noises.

Step 7: Mend all electrical and plumbing points

You may have never noticed this -your bathroom has a lot of water outlets and electric points. These points are connected to pipes that crawl inside the four walls of the bathroom. All these points need to be fixed before any tiles or fittings. Do note, the type of fittings you choose decide the way pipes are attached. Make sure all your fitting choices are finalised beforehand.

Step 8: Install tiles and stone on the walls and floor

Once you are through step 7, your contractor will begin installing tiles and stone. Bathroom design tiles are your first milestone towards finishing the renovation works. Rejoice one, and second, keep patience. Good tile laying takes time, and so does the waterproofing of your floor and pipe joints.

Step 9: Get all the fittings fixed

Provide your plumber and electrician with your selected wellness and sanitary ware. Here, it is essential to supply all the fittings together. This way your entire construction team is aware of the final layout, so there is less scope for error. Also, it ensures faster completion.

With all your fittings and fixtures in place, and after you check each point properly; say goodbye to your contractor by settling his bills. Also, make sure to note the contact numbers of the labour for future maintenance and service.

Step 10: Enjoy your remodelled bathroom design

Just Soak, relax, and enjoy!
