Plus-Minus drop error

Plus-minus drop error is the most common mistake. As you may know, for most home décor renovations, the false ceiling is made to fix lights beautifully. False ceilings are a second surface hanging few inches below the real ceiling. The drop this suspended surface is very likely to have a dimensional error, that is, how many inches below does the false ceiling drop. The number of inches is critical, but also very simple to solve. The false ceiling drop is as per your selected light fixture depth. A good thumb rule for typical LED lights is to leave 1 to 2.5 inches space above the false ceiling. Of course, it is best if you can get the lights before starting to install false ceilings.  This way you won’t go wrong at all.

The fan is longer than ceiling drop

Ceiling fans are standard in Indian homes, but they can lead to funny or rather awkward interior design. They have to be a part of the false ceiling layout and the false ceiling drop. A good thumb rule is to design your fan as a part of the ceiling or as an add-on. So, the bottom-most level of the ceiling should be lower than the bottom of the fan; or your fan should be a composed as a design add-on to your false ceiling. This way your fan looks like a style element to the whole ceiling, not utility fixture.

Too little for Lighting fixtures

Take this from a designer -one of the main reasons to install a false ceiling is lighting fixtures. With false ceilings, you get full freedom to fit your lights anywhere in the room, and with any style. However, most of us don’t realise this great advantage while doing our home décor. It is a common mistake to make a false ceiling and leave no room to fit your choice of light. This is a coordination issue and a major false ceiling design error. You spend on a false ceiling and don’t even get to use it well. Thankfully, there is a simple solution to this. Choose your lights first, and hand them to your contractor. Explain that the drop level of the ceiling should accommodate your light fittings.

Right Material fitted at the wrong place

This is the worst kind of false ceiling design error, for two reasons. First, it comes late after completion and stays until you fix it. And, second, it is visually disturbing to your home’s décor and style. POP, cement board and even grid panels can get messed up by choosing the wrong material. You can end up having moss on the wall, called papadi, or even get locked out of the area above the ceiling. For the record, POP is best for the beautification of the inside of rooms, not terraces or verandahs. Cement boards are for areas of high moisture like bathrooms or kitchens, and grid panels let you reach out of the above ceiling area regularly. Install the right material for its’ correct usage.

No false ceiling

I know this one is most unexpected for our list on false ceiling design errors, but it is a serious one. The fact is that many home renovations give away with the false ceiling installation to lower costs or for aesthetic reasons. That’s not good. Striking out false ceilings from your renovation list only results in a lighting nightmare. The stylish lights today are ceiling recessed, and hidden lights create the mood-light effects. That means a false ceiling is necessary to install them. Lighting is the life of your space. Not having a false ceiling means you cannot get any ambient or mood or focus light effects – basically a boring place.

False ceilings are a must-have on the ultimate home décor list. And false ceiling design errors are almost inevitable in every renovation project. But don’t worry, now you know the common mistakes for ceiling designs. All you need is a bit of pre-planning before the ceiling works begin, and a close watch during the construction. Your constant involvement at the site and with the ceiling workers can make sure the false ceiling installation is done the right way. Let’s get to renovation now!
