Kitchen cabinets design for a family home is just meant to be; they are the apparent bit in any home design. I don’t think a kitchen can be so without a family that uses it, cooks in it. Indian cooking is engaging, especially when enjoyed at large family homes. Most of the Indian cuisines demand plenty for prep work – you know the cleaning, cutting, chopping, grind or sauté. Basically, there is enough to occupy you and your entire family for a whole morning or afternoon. So, do you belong to a group that loves to cook together and call it a party?

For large family homes, kitchen cabinets design can be handy to add more fun to your cooking as a family unit. I mean, you and your family may not cook together every day, but sometimes they do. Maybe every other weekend, or perhaps more often. You can design your kitchen to fit your family and its cooking spree. It’s all about few added fittings here and there.

1.    Sliding counters

The great thing about modular kitchen designs are the accessories and fittings. Slide out shelves are one of these. You can expand your kitchen counter area with a pull-out. Also, it can be done in a traditional carpentry kitchen. Basically, it is a wooden table that slides out from under the counter, just like a drawer.

2.    Folding table and chair

Here is another gem of an invention that puts your empty, counter free kitchen walls to better use. It is a foldable counter to extend your kitchen cabinets design. Consider this to be like the extra counter space you always wish. With more counter, you get more cooking space. Admittedly, that’s something a kitchen design for a large family home seeks.

3.    Chopping art

When you have a kitchen design for a large family home, you have big meals to prepare; and most likely you got many hands to cook. Of course, there is always a lot of chopping and peeling to do. But you also need a lot of equipment for it.  Use them as decoration when not cooking as a family. Hang them along with the kitchen cabinets; they will add to your kitchen’s beauty and also remind you of the great times you enjoy cooking.

4.    Vanishing Island

Have you heard of a pack away table, mostly used for picnics? It is actually a set of table and chairs that can be neatly packed away in a suitcase – I find that amazingly practical in kitchen design for the family. I suggest we call it the vanishing island that magically appears whenever the family decides to cook together. Other days, it is packed away in a loft or a store cupboard.

5.    Spillover zones

Okay, now everything cannot be contained inside your kitchen. It is essential to have a change of scene when the party goes on for long. In large family homes, most cooking converts into everyday parties.  So your kitchen cabinet design will do better with an area to spill over. Use a piece of portable cooking equipment as a secondary kitchen cabinet or a table on roller wheels. Is tandoor barbeque on your list, does your kitchen have a nearby balcony? Use the floor area your kitchen to bring new storage units or working counters.
