Ayurveda and colour therapy

What is colour therapy in Ayurveda?

Several recent studies have suggested that specific colours used in Ayurveda may affect our brains, bodies, and souls. Ayurvedic colours maintain a balance or energy lacking in a person’s body. Colour therapy also influences human behaviour and can enhance well-being.

What is the relation between Ayurveda and Vedic astrology?

Ayurveda and Astrology are branches of the same tree. Astrology is a science based on planetary positions in the Universe, whereas Ayurveda is the science of life. The Universe’s five fundamental substances are water, earth, fire, space, and air. These substances, likewise plentiful in our bodies, make up the entire cosmos.

Why is colour therapy recommended in Ayurveda?

Colours may impact one’s energy level, mood, appetite, emotions, and decision-making. In Ayurveda, each colour has its distinct vibration that can help to balance the three doshas, Vata, Kapha and Pita.

Vata Dosha

Space and Air are Vata elements.  They are  sharp, clear, calm, light, dry and airy. Warm colours like oranges, golds, and yellows add life and are  grounding.Blacks, greys, and neons will irritate the nervous system.

Pitta Dosha

The elements that compose Pitta are Fire and Water. They are hot, wet, sharp, and dry.Use cooling and calming colours; blues, white, silver, pastels, and neutrals.Avoid warm or bright colours, which enhance the heat and irritation.

Kapha Dosha

The elements that compose Kapha are Earth and Water Elements. They are cold, damp, smooth, dense, and heavy. Bright colours orange, and yellow, promote mental strength and harmony.Light colours such as white, silver, and pink increase Kapha.

How to use Ayurveda colours for enhancing productivity and positivity?
Colours are therapeutic and nurturing. Colour shapes your habits, the impression you give, and how your spaces feel.

  • Support your routine with Ayurveda colours

You can energise your day with unique colours and their impact:
    Red improves productivity and focus,
Green allows for unwinding and relaxation,
A combination of red and black boosts confidence
If  hosting a party at home,  try Orange, as it promotes interaction. For a quiet day or a need for a place to relax, green is the colour, as it has a calming effect on your mind.

  • Decor with suitable colours

Be creative and introduce seasonal Ayurveda colours into your space. Make sure to avoid using too much blue as it can induce cough and cold. Keep away from yellow in your dining areas if you are watching your weight. Please stay wary of white walls at work, as they can cause headaches and nausea.

  • Plan your weekly calendar to incorporate the most suitable colour into your attire and accessories

Every day of the week has a specific colour, or “khanda,” as per Ayurveda.” This ancient foundation helps us create a positive lifestyle at home, especially when choosing day colours for Monday to Sunday. Plan your calendar to incorporate them at your workplace or in casual wear.

Décor ideas with Ayurveda colour

Follow your heart when choosing colours for your home. One can use colours that work well with another aspect of the design. Use flowers, paintings, and other objects to decorate that you like.

Flowers

Flowers make us feel better and calm us down. In Ayurveda, each kind has its way of healing. Jasmine and white lavender can help people who have trouble sleeping or are anxious. Try to keep them on the ledge in your bedroom.

Cushions and upholstery

Yellow makes you more focused and happy. A pretty yellow lamp or a pillow with sunflowers will do the trick in your living room. Add some light yellow curtains to make your day brighter.

Study and work area

Use blue, green and orange hues. Blue lowers blood pressure and anxiety. It improves productivity. Orange helps to stay creative and focus better. Green has a calming effect on our minds and relieves stress.

Bedroom

Avoid red in your bedrooms as it can cause aggression and headaches. You can use blue satin duvet sheets. Use rugs while complementing them with white accessories.

Dining area

According to Ayurveda, red in the dining area helps boost metabolism. Experiment with hues of red paint.

Lastly, have fun introducing Ayurvedic seasonal colours into your living space. Be creative and choose as per your liking.
