Ready-to-Hang Canvas: What You Get When You Order

Ready-to-Hang Canvas: What You Get When You Order

Ready to hang should leave you one decision. Not which fixings, not which frame. Just where.

When an art shop says ready to hang canvas wall art, it should mean the canvas turns up already stretched over a timber frame, with the hanging hardware fixed to the back. Nothing to assemble, frame or buy.

Every RoomFruit piece is built that way: an FSC-certified timber frame, a 4cm-deep gallery-wrapped edge, two pre-installed sawtooth hangers and a mounting kit in the box. It can go on the wall, or lean against it, the day it lands.

Ready to Hang Canvas Wall Art Means One Job Left

If you'd need to buy, assemble or frame anything before it goes up, it isn't really ready to hang.

The phrase gets used loosely online. Sometimes it means a print rolled in a tube, and sometimes a canvas with a bag of loose parts. So here's a quick test for any listing:

Stretched and framed. The canvas is pulled taut over a timber stretcher, not rolled.

Hardware on the back. It's already fitted, so you're not screwing anything in yourself.

Nothing else to buy. No frame, no glass, no mat board.

If one of those is missing, you've bought a project, not a canvas. Getting the hardware right shrinks the whole thing to one step:

Hang. Glance. Feel. Only the first one's a job.

Getting it on the wall is the easy half. Choosing the piece is half worth your time, and our guide to choosing canvas wall art starts where this one stops.

A canvas doesn't need a frame or glass, and that's half of what makes it ready to hang. Framed prints are lovely and have their place. If you're weighing the two, canvas vs framed print walks through which suits which wall.

Four Centimetres of Shadow

Frame depth is what makes a canvas read as an object rather than a print pinned flat.

A 4cm frame stands far enough off the wall to cast a real shadow, and that gives the canvas a real presence in the room. It looks placed, not stuck on.

The image stops at the front face instead of carrying round the sides, so the edge stays white. From across the room, or as you walk past at an angle, that white edge reads as a continuation of the wall, and your eye goes straight to the colour in the artwork. The effect is a canvas that seems to float.

That depth has a second job, too. It gives the canvas a proper base to stand on, which matters if you'd rather not put a hole in the wall at all (more on that below).

Depth is one of several things that separate a well-made canvas from a flimsy one. How to tell if a canvas print is good quality covers the rest, from how tight the stretch is to how the corners are folded.

How to Hang It: Plasterboard, Brick or No Holes at All

The hardware's already done, so the only choice left is how the canvas meets the wall, and there are three good ways to do it.

Hang it on hooks or nails

Every canvas has two sawtooth hangers on the back, one near each top corner. Two hooks spread the weight and stop the canvas tilting over time.

Step 1: Measure the gap between the two hangers

Step 2:
Mark two points on the wall at that gap, level with each other. As a rule of thumb, aim for the centre of the canvas to sit around 145–150cm from the floor.

Step 3: Fix two hooks.
Plasterboard: use picture hooks rated for the canvas between them (750g at 20×20cm, 2.16kg at 50×50cm, 2.75kg at 60×60cm), or fix into a stud.
Brick: use a masonry bit and two wall plugs.

Step 4: Hang the canvas and nudge it level.

Hang it with stick-on hooks

If drilling isn't an option, adhesive hooks do the job, one for each sawtooth hanger.

1.Check the two hooks together are rated above your canvas: 750g, 2.16kg or 2.75kg, depending on size.

2.Clean the wall where they'll go.

3.Stick the hooks level, at the same gap as the hangers.

4.Give the adhesive its full setting time, then hang.

For renters, the renter-friendly guide to hanging canvas without nails goes through which hooks and strips hold, and how to take them off without marking the paint.

Lean it

This is where the 4cm edge earns its keep. A deep frame stands on a console, a shelf ledge, a mantel or a benchtop and rests against the wall without sliding or slumping, which a thin print struggles to do.

Tilt the top back slightly and sit the bottom edge square, and it stays put. Leaning also means you can move it the week you change your mind.

Ready to hang should leave you one decision: where.

Made After You Click, Not Before

Every RoomFruit canvas print is made in Australia after you order, then ships free and typically arrives in 6–9 business days.

Nothing is printed in advance or sitting on a shelf somewhere. Each one is made for the order it belongs to, packed and sent to you.

If it arrives wrong or damaged, send us a photo and we'll sort it.

Same Box, Different Room

All fifteen RoomFruit canvases go up the same way, so the difference is how you wish to feel in the room once one is up.

Picture the wall you walk past most, with a console under it. A 60×60cm DEEP·Water (HELD) would fit there: blue going to deeper blue, quiet and unhurried. So would a 60×60cm RISE·Sun (LIT), all warm gold and orange.

Both arrive on the same frame with the same two sawtooth hangers, and both go up the same way. They make two different rooms.

That's the question RoomFruit starts from. We call it Mood-ing: choosing art by how it makes you feel, before what it matches.

The fifteen canvases sit in five moods, each one a feeling rather than a colour scheme: LIT, FLOW, SYNC, SOLID and HELD. So instead of asking what goes with the console, you ask: how do you wish to feel in this room today?

It matters more than it sounds, because you won't take this canvas in once and move on. You'll glance at it hundreds of times.

A 1968 study at the University of Michigan found we tend to grow to like what we see often. Our read: whatever hangs in your line of sight will grow on you, so choose the feeling you'd like to grow into.

A screen has to keep changing to keep you looking. A canvas stays put, so the feeling can too.

The spec sheet tells you it'll stay up. It can't tell you how the room will feel once it does.

Three Sizes, Straight Out of the Box

All three sizes arrive ready to hang, so size comes down to the wall and how loudly you'd like the mood to land.

20×20cm : ENOUGH·Moon (HELD). Small enough to lean on a shelf or a desk. It's a quiet shift you can move around the house.

50×50cm : MOVE·River (FLOW). Sits well above a console or in a stretch of wall you pass every day.

60×60cm : WIDEN·Mountains (SYNC). Big enough to hold a wall on its own.

20×20×4cm is personal. 50×50×4cm is considered. 60×60×4cm is a statement.

Most canvases arrive with the same hardware. Only one arrives with the mood you wanted.

Down to One Decision

Match the hanging method to your wall, then let the mood choose the canvas.

If you can drill: use the two sawtooth hangers and two rated hooks.

If you're renting: use two adhesive hooks, or lean it.

If you haven't settled on a spot: lean it on a console and move it later.

If you know the wall but not the piece: start with how you'd like to feel there. The Find Your Mood quiz takes about a minute.

FAQ

Do ready-to-hang canvases come with hooks or nails?
Every RoomFruit canvas has two sawtooth hangers already fitted on the back and comes with a mounting kit sized to the canvas. You don't need to add anything to the canvas itself. Pick two wall fixings that suit your wall type.

Can I hang a canvas without drilling?
Yes, two ways. Adhesive hooks hold the two sawtooth hangers just like nails would, as long as the pair is rated for the canvas's weight. Or lean it: the 4cm frame lets the canvas stand on a console, shelf or mantel against the wall.

Do I need a frame for a canvas print?
No. A RoomFruit canvas is already stretched over a 4cm timber frame with a clean white edge, so it's finished as it is. There's no glass, which also means no glare.

Can a canvas hang somewhere humid?
The canvas and inks are fade and humidity resistant, so they handle most Australian homes. Just keep it off walls that regularly get damp or collect condensation.

How long does delivery take?
Each canvas is printed in Australia after you order, then shipped free. It typically arrives in 6–9 business days.
