How to start pot garden at home?
For a pot garden, you will need : Garden pots or containers, Potting Soil, Coir, Coarse gravel, Watering can, Plant seeds, small shovel and spare time at home.

  1. Choose a spot

Find a dedicated area at your home for pot garden. This area can be a corner, a balcony, a hallway, ceiling zone or a wall area. When choosing a spot, make sure:
    a. the place receives good sunshine and fresh air,
    b. the walls and floor of this spot are water-resistant with tiles or exterior grade paint,
    c. If possible, keep the containers near the water tap.

  2. Pick a type

Select a type of pot garden that is suitable for your selected spot.

  3. Soil selection

An essential part of pot gardening is selecting the right soil. Typically, potting soil is less dense than ground garden soil.

  4. Seeds as per season

Another vital thing to remember is selecting the right seeds as per the seasons. Plants have their own needs or requirements, and they thrive in particular seasons. So, it is essential to meet all their requirements.

  5. Container sizing

Select the container size as per the width and depth of the fully grown plant. Sometimes, we take small boxes and later realise that the plant has grown too big and plant them in another pot. It may damage the roots of the plant. So, it’s best to confirm how big the plant will grow and then buy the containers accordingly.

  6. Make soil mix

Mix the soil with coir and growth boosters. Adding coir allows the soil to retain moisture for a longer duration of time. And, the growth boosters provide optimum nutrition to the seeds.

  7. Layering your pot

In pot container gardening, we try to mimic the ground soil conditions. The layering of different materials does this. It allows for proper air and water access to the seed. Layer the pot base with coarse stones, add the soil mix; and again top it with the rough rocks.

  8. Sowing the seeds

Moist the ground and then plant the seeds. In the pot, dig a small hole by pressing your thumb into the soil. Place a couple of seeds inside and cover it with loose mud.

  9. Watering and care

Pot gardening needs your care and attention. Nurture the plants and water them regularly. Make sure the pots receive a suitable amount of sunlight and fresh air. Find out how much sunlight is needed for your seed.
