Ram Navami occurs in Chaitra Masa (March or April) as per Hindu calendar. The festival celebrations come on the 9th day of spring or Chaitra Navratri during Shukla paksha. Ramnavami date: 
a. For the year 2024 – Wednesday, April 17 2024
b. For the year 2025 – Sunday, April 6, 2025
c. For the year 2026 – Thursday, March 26, 2026

What is the importance of Ram Navami?

Ram Navami or the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri is the birthday of Lord Rama. Shri Ramachandra is the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu and was born in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh in Treta Yuga. The life of Lord Rama teaches us how to live on the path of Dharma which is a moral code of life for Hindus.

King Dasharatha and his three wives Kaushalya, Kaikeyi and Sumitra, had no children. Vashishth Rishi suggested that they conduct the Putra Kameshti Yagna. All three queens conceived after performing the Yagna and queen Kaushalya on the ninth day of Chaitra masa gave birth to a baby boy who was later named as Ramachandra.

People worship Lord Ram on this auspicious Navratri day and visit temples. At home, you can collect the essential Ram Navami pooja items listed below to perform the Maha aarti.
At the puja, first, the idol of Lord Rama receives a holy bath. Next, you dress Lord Ram in beautiful attire and place in a decorated cradle. Now an elaborate pooja is performed. You start by offering fresh flowers and perform a maha aarti. During the Ramnavami pooja, offer delicious kheer and other sweet items to God as Naivedyam. Some devotees also conduct Kanya puja during this festival.

  • Decorative Pooja Thali for pooja Samaghri
  • Kalash – One Large Kalash with coconut and mango leaves, and Two small Kalash with spout for Ganga Jal and Scent – Attar
  • Bowls – Four small pooja bowls for rice, betel nut – supari, turmeric – Haldi and vermillion – sindoor; and Two bowls for garland and prasad offering
  • Plates – Two small plates for flowers and Sandal- Chandan
  • Tray – One tray plate for hand Ghanti and Shankh
  • Diyas – One lamp Diya

Kalash

Kalash holds great importance in a pooja. You must have a pooja Kalash with five mango leaves and a coconut. Also, keep two small Kalash and spout for keeping the holy Ganga Jal and scent (attar).

Pooja Thali

One of the critical things which are essential for conducting all the rituals is pooja thali. Instead of using plain simple thali, use decorative thali which is available in different shapes. You can keep pooja Samagris like Chandan, Haldi, kumkum, camphor, Diya, etc. in the thali.

Bowls

Take four bowls to keep rice, betel nut (supari), Haldi (turmeric) and sindoor (vermillion). From these bowls, take a little bit of Haldi and sindoor, and apply on the idol. You can also keep the prasad and garland in pots.


Diyas

Diyas are also one of the essential elements while performing Ram Navami pooja as it symbolizes knowledge and wisdom. You can use oil or ghee to light up the Diya. Make sure to place the Diya on the right side of your pooja mandap.

Plates

When it comes to performing the pooja, the first thing which comes to our mind is flowers. Take different flowers to worship Lord Ram. You can use roses, marigold flowers, jasmine etc. Place these flowers on a plate, and you can take flowers from this plate while performing the pooja. Also, to keep the Chandan (Sandal powder) you can make use of a small plate.


Tray

As per the Hindu rituals, shank and Ghanti are very important if you are performing any pooja at your home. Blowing Shankh after/before the pooja and using the hand Ghanti during the Arti removes all the negative energies. You can use a tray to keep the Shankh and hand Ghanti.


A raised platform or Aasan

The most important thing to remember while performing the pooja is keeping the idol on the raised platform or Aasan. Cover this raised platform or Aasan with a new decorative cloth. You can also use silk or velvet cloth which has borders as it will give a luxurious look.
